Style Files: Modern Day Calamity Jane.

A very stylish homage from 365 Days of Thrift.

The following originally appeared on 365 Days of Thrift on January 28, 2017 by Elisabeth Donaldson.

“Seems a lot of men never saw one such as me. A girl what could keep up and fight and ride and curse with the best of them. A girl what ain’t trapped in some dress or some house or some bed. A girl what ain’t waiting on some man to do what she ought to her own damn self.”
— J.D. Jordan, Calamity

Sometimes you just layer until it feels right. The thing I love the most about this outfit is it’s evolution.  It started simple enough with a creamy modern simple dress- it was chilly so I threw on an off white maxi vest- it was colder still so I grabbed the newest addition to my coat family- a perfect unlined buttery suede coat the same color as my hair.  Big black necklace  because it always pulls neutral outfits together.  I flirted with ginger colored boots as well- but opted for the darker shade because it gave the color palette more depth. After all that- the hat was a natural choice.  I wouldn’t say that I overthink my outfits- I would say that my mind becomes rapidly aware of color play and style stories as its all happening.  I’ve been acutely aware of the interaction of colors and color patterns in environments since I was a kid.  I guess that’s what they call being an artist…

“Not knowing what I needed to do or where I needed to go, I knew all the same that I was going in the right direction.”
— J.D. Jordan, Calamity

“I figure if a girl wants to be a legend she should just go ahead and be one.”
— Calamity Jane

“I was the luckiest girl. Don’t you think because I didn’t have no proper man or husband I was anything else. Wasn’t no place I’d rather be than right there.“I was the luckiest girl. Don’t you think because I didn’t have no proper man or husband I was anything else. Wasn’t no place I’d rather be than right there.”
— J.D. Jordan, Calamity

“At last my heart’s an open door, and my secret love’s no secret anymore”
